Well, we finally got a response from the Division of State Parks about rangers doing nothing but law enforcement and not very visible at that, but the rhetoric is so thick we haven’t deciphered the official response yet.  Meanwhile in the parks, the hell-raising goes on.

By the way, we’re quite confused. Here at the NC State Recreation Areas on Kerr Lake and with the exception of just a few of the old school rangers, our recent report showed that most of the new rangers are here only to be “cops.” They spend their time patrolling and riding the roads.  They spend as much time in the office as they do in the field.  We did see one ranger once in two weeks, actually walk a campground circle.  Where they stay, no one is really sure.  So if they don’t want to be educators, tour information, outdoor interpreters and educators, and they just want to be cops, why is there so much drinking and hell-raising in the parks?

None, you say?  Look at the donuts and ripped up sign.

So for about a week, there has been a large group of hellians with their whooping yells half the night and their boom box boats that you can hear the song words inside your camper a cove away. That’s really been a thrilling joy. The local camp host confronted the hellians one night and they dared him to do anything about it. He called a ranger and no ranger ever came. We are so confused. We thought the rangers wanted to be law dogs!  Maybe it’s time to call the Marines from Camp LeJeune.

And what happened to the rules like two vehicles per campsite? Six campers per site? No alcohol? Silly us. Must be because it’s a holiday. Sure, that’s why the bathhouses get trashed and have to be cleaned up eight times a day.

Good ole NC Division of State Parks, more confusing rhetoric. Anybody seen a ranger?

While I was at Hibernia at the same timeframe stated in your email, you fail to recognize that other than these few bad apples, most if not all the other folks were well behaved. I am sure some of them may even had consumed a cup or two.
The era of John Speed seems to be over and I hate that. Maybe it is the leadership that is lacking. I know I fill in the surveys on a weekly basis, and have yet to have a single response to any of the comments I have made.
    Examples may include.
1:The heap of stone lying in the boat parking area in the 80/90 loop has been there for about 2 to 3 years now. Most of the sites in the same loop as well as the 100 loop have not seen any fresh stone in as long as I can remember. It may be well served to put some fresh stone on the sites, I know there is a bob cat there, I saw it in the woods.
2: Trimming of the tree branches in the areas where campers drive in and out of the park, on the camp sites and where the boats drive to the ramp. I am sure its only my camper thats is getting scratched up as well as the bimini on my boat thats getting torn up.
3: We are in 2018 and most folks have campers from this century, one would think that when they improve campsites (a rare event) they may consider the campers use 50 amp services and not 30 amp services.
So before anyone goes ahead and tells me….. But……remember…… we are dealing with the state. All I have to say to that is, stop giving them a pass. I pay taxes, the fees continue to go up in the parks, and I have not see anything of note in the last 20 years. Couple of sites 93 through 99 have been improved, big whoop. Try running a private campground like this and you will go broke.

PS, the bath houses were in a clean state, other than folks leaving the lights on in the night and that attracting a million bugs, I would like to give a shout out to the bathroom and trash cleaning staff.
Bob also does an outstanding job, I even saw him picking up trash behind the day visitors on their beach area.
Rangers, no one needs to tell you, you can do better in all areas!!!!!If you are not sure what I mean go take a look rangers house. If thats the standard you are setting, you need to step up and straighten up.
